We have received a tremendous response for the grand opening of Tohoku's first "kofun tomb." Osaki Sakura Karyo Kofun Tomb, a "Takeda-Style Kofun Tomb" developed by Zenpokoenfun Inc. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Tsuneyasu Takeda) in Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, will have its grand opening on Sunday, July 5, Reiwa 8. The on-site briefing session, featuring Representative Director Tsuneyasu Takeda, was fully booked (144 participants) for all four sessions one week prior to the event and closed its reception with great success.
The advance sales for registered users of "Kofun no Madoguchi" (Window to Kofun), conducted prior to the grand opening, also received a response far exceeding our expectations and closed its reception with great success. We are deeply pleased to see the strong anticipation for both the advance sales and the on-site briefing sessions, indicating that a new form of prayer, the "kofun tomb," was eagerly awaited in the Tohoku region.
Although the on-site briefing sessions are fully booked, general sales will be available to everyone starting Sunday, July 5. Contracts and payments can be completed entirely on the e-commerce site "Kofun no Madoguchi." We encourage everyone eagerly awaiting the grand opening to consider it. Inquiries for on-site visits will also be accepted through "Kofun no Madoguchi."
Osaki Sakura Karyo is the fourth Takeda-Style Kofun Tomb nationwide, following those in Chiba, Kagawa, and Osaka, and is the first to be built in Tohoku. It is a modern collective grave and perpetual care tomb faithfully reproduced based on academic knowledge with archaeologists, Shinto scholars, and architects, replicating kofun-period zenpokoenfun tombs. It offers two burial options: "Individual Perpetual Burial," where remains are individually interred in surface plots, and "Joint Perpetual Burial," where remains are jointly interred in the kofun's front partカロート (bone repository). It is a "perpetual burial" where remains do not need to be exhumed after interment, requiring no successors, and elaborate rituals will continue as long as the kofun is passed down. Burial with pets is also possible.
On-site briefing session with Representative Tsuneyasu Takeda held (all 4 sessions fully booked)
On Sunday, July 5, Reiwa 8, the grand opening day, an on-site briefing session will be held at Osaki Sakura Karyo Kofun Tomb. Representative Director Tsuneyasu Takeda himself will present, explaining how zenpokoenfun tombs spread throughout Japan, the historical and cultural significance of kofun culture, and the appeal of the "Takeda-Style Kofun Tomb," which revives the kofun period's burial system—a pure Japanese culture predating the introduction of Buddhism (538 AD)—for the modern era, directly on-site. Details on the kofun tomb's features, costs, and burial types will also be provided.
Fortunately, all four sessions were fully booked. However, the authentic zenpokoenfun tomb built in the Tohoku region can be viewed on-site even after the grand opening. Information on future on-site briefing sessions will be provided periodically via email distribution from "Kofun no Madoguchi."
At Osaki Sakura Karyo Kofun Tomb, a "Shinto-Buddhist syncretism" form of prayer will be passed down eternally, with local Osaki Hachiman Shrine priests performing Shinto rituals and Sairenji temple monks performing Buddhist memorial services during the 御霊祭 twice a year (around the spring and autumn equinoxes). No successors are required, and management fees are paid in a lump sum at the time of contract. Planting and cleaning are entirely handled by the cemetery.
Our company is working to redefine graves not as places for the deceased, but as community spaces that connect people from the time they are alive. "If we're going to get along in the afterlife, why not while we're still well?" We aim to contribute to making end-of-life planning a bright and positive experience, for example, by holding "Kofun Reunions" for contract holders. Our initiatives have been considered for purchase by over 8,000 people nationwide. We will continue to deliver the "Takeda-Style Kofun Tomb," which connects Japan's unique views on life and death and prayer culture to the present day, to people across the country for years to come.

About Zenpokoenfun Inc.
We are an end-of-life planning related business that develops and sells "Kofun Bo" (kofun tombs), which are tree burials faithfully reproducing ancient Japanese zenpokoenfun tombs. Currently, three kofun tombs have been completed and sold in Chiba, Kagawa, and Osaka prefectures, and we aim to develop 100 kofun tombs nationwide.
Contracts and payments for kofun tombs are completed on the e-commerce site "Kofun no Madoguchi." We are also working to create a new memorial culture by holding "Kofun Reunions" as opportunities for contract holders to interact with each other while they are alive.

What is "Takeda-Style Kofun Tomb"?
"Takeda-Style Kofun Tomb" is a modern collective grave and perpetual care tomb faithfully reproduced based on academic knowledge with archaeologists, Shinto scholars, and architects, replicating kofun-period zenpokoenfun tombs. It is a unique tomb that revives the kofun period's burial system—a pure Japanese culture predating the introduction of Buddhism (538 AD)—for the modern era.
Authentic Design: The model is a kofun from the 3rd century Yamato (Nara Basin). It reproduces the structures of that time, such as tiered construction, moats, stone cladding, and stone chambers, and is built as an authentic zenpokoenfun tomb.
Elaborate Rituals of Shinto-Buddhist Syncretism: During the 御霊祭 twice a year (around the spring and autumn equinoxes), Shinto priests perform Shinto rituals, and monks perform Buddhist memorial services. No successors are required, management fees are paid in a lump sum at the time of contract, and all cleaning and rituals are handled by the cemetery.
Industry-First, Japan-First Ease of Purchase: You can purchase a tomb with the same ease as online shopping on the e-commerce site "Kofun no Madoguchi" (the first time in Japan that purchasing a tomb can be completed online). Credit card and installment payments are also accepted.
Community from Before Life: "Kofun Reunions" are held for contract holders. Many contracts are made while alive, and we have received comments from customers saying, "I'm starting to look forward to dying."
