The first Takeda-style Kofunbo in Tohoku will be born in Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture.

Kofun Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Tsuneyasu Takeda) announces the construction of a 'Kofunbo' (burial mound grave), a tree burial that faithfully reproduces the ancient Japanese keyhole-shaped burial mound, within the 'Osaki Sakura Karyo' cemetery in Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. This marks the first construction of a Kofunbo in the Tohoku region. Completion is scheduled for around July this year, and construction is currently underway.

In February, a ground-breaking ceremony (Jichinsai) was held by a Shinto priest from Osaki Hachimangu Shrine, a partner shrine, to pray for the safe construction of the Kofunbo. The chief priest of Seirinji Temple, which manages the cemetery, also attended, and rituals such as Tamagushi Hōten (offering of sacred branches) and Kuwaire no Gi (hoeing ceremony) were performed, making it a beautiful ceremony symbolizing the fusion of Shinto and Buddhism.
