Introducing "Learning Tourism for Nurturing the Future"

Minamisanriku Town, located on the coast of Miyagi Prefecture, suffered extensive damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011.

Since the earthquake, under the philosophy of "A town where people, forests, satoyama, and the sea cycle life," the town has been developing sustainable community building, including obtaining ASC/FSC international certifications. We propose "Learning Tourism for Nurturing the Future", which utilizes the entire region as a field for learning, offering disaster prevention and mitigation programs to help future generations learn from the lessons of the earthquake, active learning programs utilizing regional resources of forests, satoyama, and the sea, marine activities, and local lifestyle experiences based on primary industries.
※The "Learning Tourism for Nurturing the Future" project received a Special Award at the 8th Japan Tourism Awards (2024).
