Kamiwarizaki Campsite Unofficial Mascot Design Contest / Decision

We solicited designs for a "yurukyara" (mascot) to help invigorate Kamiwarizaki Campsite, and received an overwhelming 180 entries from both within and outside the prefecture.

The winning entry was selected based on factors such as cuteness, approachability, appropriate looseness, and points that easily evoke images of Kamiwarizaki and outdoor activities.

Regarding the "Grand Prize" design, it has been certified as the Kamiwarizaki Campsite Unofficial Mascot, and we hope it will be active as a character loved by everyone for a long time to come.
In the future, we are considering deciding its name (a public contest is planned) and developing merchandise. If you see it locally or on social media, please give it some love.
The winning entries can be found here.

Kamiwarizaki Campsite Original Face-in-Hole Panel Installed

This is a face-in-hole panel designed with the legend of Kamiwarizaki in mind, one of the leading scenic spots in Minamisanriku Town, located very close to the campsite. It is designed so that you can become the "sunrise" rising between the rocks, which are said to have been split by a god.

We installed this face-in-hole panel with the desire to entertain visitors as a souvenir of their visit to Kamiwarizaki and Kamiwarizaki Campsite, and to pass down the culture and traditions inherited by the region to future generations in some form. We hope that this initiative will provide an opportunity for more people to experience the charm and background of Minamisanriku Town. When you are in the area, please enjoy taking a commemorative photo.

Legend of Kamiwarizaki

Long ago, a legend remains that a god, in a night of thunder, split a cape and a whale in half, making it the boundary between two villages that were fighting over the ownership of a whale on their border. Through divine judgment, people ceased their quarrels, and this rock裂 (rock cleft).
