LINE and PayPay to Link Accounts Starting Summer 2026, Connecting Over 100 Million Monthly LINE Users and 74 Million Registered PayPay Users

PayPay Corporation (hereinafter "PayPay") and LINE Yahoo Corporation (hereinafter "LINE Yahoo") will begin linking their "LINE" and "PayPay" accounts from summer 2026 onwards (Note 1). This integration of Japan's largest communication app and cashless payment service will enable a new service experience where "PayPay" can be used with just "LINE".

Through this linkage, users will be able to send "PayPay balance" (Note 2) and use the "Group Payment" feature for splitting bills directly within "LINE" chats, without needing to go through the PayPay app. Additionally, users can opt to display their "LINE" friends within the PayPay app, allowing for smoother transfers of "PayPay balance" to "LINE" friends. Furthermore, a "LINE Mini App" version of "PayPay" is also planned (Note 3).

"LINE" users who do not currently use "PayPay" will be able to register for a PayPay account directly on "LINE" without using the PayPay app.

Note 1: User consent is required for account linkage. Basic functions of "LINE" and "PayPay" will remain available as before even if this linkage is not performed. However, functions requiring account linkage, and "Unlinked PayPay Points" earned on "LINE" after the start of point integration, will not be usable. Also, if "LINE" and "Yahoo! JAPAN" or "PayPay" and "Yahoo! JAPAN" accounts are already linked, agreeing to the "LINE" and "PayPay" account linkage will link all three accounts: "LINE", "Yahoo! JAPAN", and "PayPay". Note 2: Sending PayPay Money balance is considered a transfer, while sending PayPay Money Lite balance is considered a gift. For details, please refer to the PayPay Balance Terms of Use (https://about.paypay.ne.jp/terms/consumer/rule/balance/).

Note 3: "LINE Mini App" is a new app platform that allows businesses to offer their services within "LINE". Services such as membership cards, mobile ordering, and reservation acceptance can be provided on "LINE" without requiring additional app downloads or member registration, and important announcements can be sent free of charge. By strengthening the integration between "LINE" and "PayPay", an environment will be provided for users to conveniently exchange money according to their usage scenarios. Furthermore, the integration of "LINE Points" and "PayPay Points" is also planned for the future, allowing "LINE Points" to be converted into "PayPay Points" with no expiration date (Note 4). The provision of various functions through linkage and the integration of points are scheduled to be implemented sequentially after the account linkage begins.

Note 4: If account linkage is not performed, "LINE Points" held before point integration can continue to be used as "LINE Points". Points earned on LINE services after point integration will be held as "Unlinked PayPay Points" for 28 days from acquisition and will expire if account linkage is not completed within that period.

"Send/Receive" PayPay Balance Function Available on LINE Chats

PayPay's "Send/Receive" function allows for free transfers of "PayPay balance" 24/7 and accounts for 98% (Note 5) of smartphone payment transfer share. It is used in various situations such as splitting bills for parties or gifts, money exchanges between family members, allowances, celebratory money, and New Year's gift money. With account linkage, users will be able to send "PayPay balance" (Note 2) and split bills in groups directly within "LINE" chats, enabling smooth money exchange as an extension of communication.

PayPay for LINE Mini App to be Offered

PayPay will be offered as a "LINE Mini App" version, a web application provided on "LINE". The "LINE Mini App" version of "PayPay" will allow users to access "PayPay" functions within the "LINE" app, including checking "PayPay balance" and owned "PayPay Points", using the "Send/Receive" function, viewing transaction history, and charging from ATMs (Note 6).

Note 6: Usage limits for "PayPay" and the "LINE Mini App" version of "PayPay" differ. If "PayPay" identity verification is complete, "PayPay balance" in the "LINE Mini App" version of "PayPay" will be "PayPay Money"; if identity verification is not complete, it will be "PayPay Money Lite". LINE Friends List Displayed on PayPay App for Convenient Interaction with LINE Friends

Through account linkage, users can opt to display their "LINE" friends on the PayPay app. This will enable the use of PayPay's "Send/Receive" function to friends connected on "LINE" without needing to check phone numbers or PayPay IDs.

Integration of LINE Points into PayPay Points

"LINE Points" will be integrated into "PayPay Points" to provide a more convenient point service. After integration, by linking "LINE" and "PayPay" accounts, "LINE Points" will be automatically converted into "PayPay Points" with no expiration date (Note 4).

"PayPay Points" can be used for everyday payments, as well as for "PayPay Point Investments", "PayPay Securities", "PayPay Insurance", donations, paying for "PayPay Card" purchases, and more. Additionally, purchases on LINE's EC services will also earn "PayPay Points" (Note 7), making it easier to accumulate "PayPay Points". On "LINE Gift", users will receive "PayPay Points" when they receive gifts, offering an experience where points can be earned through communication. The scope of services where "PayPay Points" can be awarded and used within "LINE" services will be expanded sequentially.

Note 7: "PayPay Points" awarded in this initiative include some "PayPay Points (Limited Time)" usable only on select LINE Yahoo Group services and PayPay/PayPay Card official stores, and some "PayPay Points (Standard)" usable at all PayPay merchants with no expiration date (cannot be withdrawn or transferred).
