Luup, Inc. announced that as part of its 'LUUP for Community' service, which allows local governments and organizations to operate the LUUP service, it will conduct a pilot program in Rishirifuji, Hokkaido, from June 1 to September 30, 2026. Luup's mission is to create infrastructure that makes every street corner feel like a station front. Rishiri Island, featuring Mount Rishiri, is a popular tourist destination where public transport has struggled to meet the needs of visitors traveling between scattered spots. By introducing LUUP, the company aims to provide a seamless, flexible, and comfortable way for tourists to explore the island. Akio Kudo, Chairman of the Rishirifuji Tourism Association, expressed hope that the service will improve mobility and convenience. The service will be available for 500 yen per 30 minutes, with three ports located at the Oshidomari Ferry Terminal, Rishiri Airport, and the Rishirifuji Hot Spring facility.
