■ STATEMENT

CHROMATIC SILHOUETTES

KAZUSA MATSUYAMA has consistently depicted the "relationship between artwork and viewer" through human figures. The figures appearing in her works evoke specific individuals while simultaneously being portrayed as anonymous presences.

In this exhibition, "CHROMATIC SILHOUETTES," the contours of human figures are further abstracted, depicting presences that emerge as silhouettes and vestiges from layers of color.

Figures in our memories lose their contours over time, leaving only events and emotions like colors.

These ambiguous afterimages sometimes appear as silhouettes, creating new images as they overlap with each viewer's experiences and memories.

In KAZUSA MATSUYAMA's paintings, human figures are not mere portraits but exist as a "place" where layers of time, memory, and emotion intersect.

Within spaces constructed by color, figures with ambiguous contours stand as if drifting between past and present, reality and memory. They are simultaneously someone's form and fragments of vestiges remaining within ourselves.

Through this exhibition, we hope that by tracing the traces of people that emerge through color and silhouette, viewers' own memories and senses will be quietly awakened.
