■ STATEMENT

CHROMATIC SILHOUETTES

KAZUSA MATSUYAMA has consistently depicted the “relationship between the artwork and the viewer” through human figures. The figures appearing in her works, while evoking specific individuals, are simultaneously portrayed as anonymous presences.

In this exhibition, “CHROMATIC SILHOUETTES,” the outlines of figures are further abstracted, depicting presences that emerge as silhouettes and vestiges from layers of color.

These ambiguous afterimages sometimes appear as silhouettes, creating new images as they overlap with each viewer's experiences and memories.

In KAZUSA MATSUYAMA's paintings, figures are not mere portraits; they exist as a “place” where layers of time, memory, and emotion intersect.

Within spaces constructed by color, figures with ambiguous outlines drift between past and present, reality and memory. They are simultaneously glimpses of someone else and fragments of the vestiges remaining within ourselves.

Through this exhibition, tracing the traces of humanity that emerge through color and silhouette, we hope that viewers' own memories and senses will be quietly awakened.
