First Landing in Japan! "Cinderella" by Italy's Award-Winning Zaches Teatro to be Performed in Yokohama

Presented by NPO Yokohama Kodomo no Hiroba / PUK Puppet Theatre, and produced by PUK Puppet Theatre, the "World Puppet Theatre Series: Cinderella" featuring Zaches Teatro (Italy) will be performed from August 19, 2026 (Wed) to August 20, 2026 (Thu) at Tsuzuki Kumin Bunka Center (Bosch Hall) (1-9-33 Nakagawa Chuo, Tsuzuki-ku, Yokohama). — A "Cinderella" Like No One Has Ever Seen — As part of the PUK Puppet Theatre's "World Puppet Theatre Series 2026," Zaches Teatro, highly acclaimed at international festivals across Europe and recipient of numerous awards including Best Production, Audience Award, Actor Award, and Set & Lighting Design Award, will present a "Cinderella" unlike any seen before, appearing as a fantastical stage production.

This work does not depict modern society directly, but rather, through fairy tales and symbolic worlds, it questions how we are living "now." Based on a well-known story, it is a stage work that portrays "growth" and "carving out one's own destiny."

The stage is a world covered in large hearths and ashes. Tiny spirits living in the ashes, the "Cenerine," tell Cinderella's story. Rather than a tale of searching for a prince, it is a "rite of passage story" for confronting the past and encountering oneself. Cinderella, who lived quietly beneath the ashes, avoiding notice. While enduring unreasonable treatment, a small flame burns deep within her heart. Eventually, she gradually gains courage and chooses to move forward on her own.

A stage filled with humor, fantasy, and visual appeal, woven from dance, puppetry, masks, physical expression, and original music.

Zaches Teatro

Formed in Florence, Italy, in 2007, Zaches Teatro is a theater and dance company. They create stage works that emphasize imagery, sound, and body movement, combining various forms of expression such as contemporary dance, puppetry, masks, vocal expression, and original music. Their works, enjoyable for all ages, have been performed at festivals across Europe, Russia, and Asia, receiving numerous awards and high acclaim. They have received many awards, including the 2022 EOLO Award Children's Theatre Category "Best New Production" (Italy) and the 2024 International Puppet Festival (Serbia) "Golden Sparkle" Best Actor Award.
