A theatrical performance that ponders "our way of 'marriage'" through three works.

In an era where various forms of "marriage" and related issues are emerging, how should we approach the option of "not marrying"?

Some people have no desire to marry, some do not want to choose the institution of marriage, and some cannot marry for various reasons. How have such people dealt with the often unintentionally blunt question, "Why aren't you married?"

Fuka Yuge, originally from Oita City, Oita Prefecture, and currently an assistant in the Department of Theater Arts at Nihon University College of Art, encountered the significant and regionally varying theme of "marriage" while researching "local theater." In Tokyo in 2026, writers and performers from different generations and backgrounds will create three works based on this theme.

'Playback'

Written by: Kaito Shizuka (Frambulco)

I met a woman named Momota-san on a dating app, and she tricked me into buying a suspicious product. In my despair, I became aware of another self, "me," and together, we embarked on a time-travel journey of "self-killing."

'Women Run'

Written by: Shiori Nakajima (Iihenji)

Hayashi, who was vaguely drifting after breaking up with someone she had considered marrying, decided to participate in a weekend run organized by citizen runner Tasaki, whom she saw posting on social media. There, she met Hoshino, who was running for her wedding, and Kusu, who was running for exercise. The four ran amicably, but a certain incident led them to share stories about their respective lives.

'A Long Road Ahead'

Written by: Ryu Motohashi (Ungeziefer)

Jiro and Sachiko, living in the countryside, traveled to Tokyo for their daughter Yuki's wedding. It was Jiro's secret dream to walk his daughter down the aisle. At the venue, Yuki and the groom Eiji appeared in an outlandish attire. They declared they would have an original wedding ceremony, unconstrained by existing values. Jiro was perplexed by the unexpected proceedings.
