Matteo Mela (Guitar)
Born in Imperia in 1971. After studying with Renzo Doria Miglietta in his hometown, he moved to Cremona to study musicology at the University of Cremona. In Cremona, he met Giovanni Puddu, who greatly influenced his musical education. He also had the opportunity to take lessons from Angelo Gilardino, Alirio Díaz, Oscar Ghiglia, David Russell, and the Assad Brothers. Furthermore, he studied chamber music at Imola Pianistica with Dario De Rosa, Alexander Lonquich, and Pier Narciso Masi. As a member of the Mela-Bandini Duo, Matteo won first prize in numerous prestigious chamber music competitions between 1991 and 1998, including Aram (Rome) in 1992, F. Cilea Competition in 1993, GMI in 1994, Città di Gubbio, Città di Caltanissetta, and Perugia Classico Competition in 1995. In 2002, he formed a duo with Lorenzo Micheli, and has since performed throughout Europe, Asia, the United States, Canada, and Latin America, in renowned halls from Carnegie Hall in New York to Sejong Chamber Hall in Seoul, and the Wiener Konzerthaus.
