This work, where Bushman takes on "The Tale of Genji," is a contemporary dance piece that connects an ancient tale with the modern "unspeakable pain." The suppression and conflicts of women hidden in stories a thousand years ago have changed form and still quietly reside within our bodies and social structures. The "nothingness" that emerges at the end of desire is by no means a thing of the past. It still throbs within this body. It re-examines the suppression and desires hidden within the beauty of the Heian period in a contemporary context through non-verbal physical expression filled with the scent of blood, sweat, and earth. What is Bushman? A dance company led by Ikumi Kurosu, with Teizo Bausch and Rikito Eguchi as core members. It attracts attention for its unique worldview, built on expressions that push the limits of body and stamina. Based in Kanto, it performs nationwide in Kanazawa, Toyama, Ehime, Nagoya, Miyazaki, and has also successfully performed overseas in Hong Kong and Korea, actively expanding its activities both domestically and internationally.
