"Musical Awards TOKYO 2026" Nominee in 3 Major Categories: Gekidan Myu's Latest Musical 'The Kamikaze Pilot and His Wife' Commences!

Since its founding in 2024, Gekidan Myu has been on a roll with productions featuring "live voices and live instruments" without any sound equipment. Their previous work, 'Jeanne d'Arc - Joan of Arc -', achieved the remarkable feat of being nominated in three major categories at the "Musical Awards TOKYO 2026": [Grand Prize], [Best Production (under 500 seats)], and [New Artist Award].

Now, the full cast of Gekidan Myu's latest work, 'The Kamikaze Pilot and His Wife', which is currently the most anticipated theater company in the musical world, has finally been revealed!

Overwhelming Vocal and Acting Prowess. A Multitalented Cast of Veterans

Playing Tetsuya Akina, the protagonist who decides on a kamikaze attack in post-war Manchuria, is Souto Arima, known for musicals like 'In the Heights' and the stage play 'Given' (starring as Mafuyu Sato). Next is Ryuichiro Sakata, known for musicals such as 'SERI ~A Single Life~' (as Takeharu) and who also appeared in Gekidan Myu's Op.3 'First Love Sada Yacco: Japan's first actress'.

Playing Masako, the wife who rode in the fighter plane with the protagonist, is Koko Hayashi, who gave an excellent performance as Mika Egashira in the musical 'Skip and Loafer'. And Nana Fujita, who played Norma (younger) in the musical 'Flowers for Algernon', adds splendor and depth to the work.

Furthermore, the "overwhelming vocal ability" of former Takarazuka Revue member Ayaka Shiotsuki and Yuko Iketani, who has appeared in numerous musical productions, is featured. Noteworthy talents such as Raima Hiramatsu from the musical 'Fate/Zero', Hisashi Masumoto from the stage play 'SHINE SHOW!', and Shu Kuwahara, who has appeared in popular works like the musical 'SPY×FAMILY', are also gathered. In addition, DION, who has attracted attention for being selected for the musical 'Mary Poppins' opening this spring, will also participate.

Also, Katsumi Toi, known for 'Les Misérables' (Marius) and 'Jersey Boys', and Hiroshi Hatanaka, who has appeared in musicals like 'CROSS ROAD ~Paganini, the Devil's Violinist~' and 'The Iron Rat's Cage', further deepen the story.

A host of talented performers with both vocal and acting skills, as well as dancing ability, will join the stage, including Airi Tsunekawa (making her third appearance with Gekidan Myu), Yuki Iwasa, Kanae Tamiya, Shion Aoki, Ayano Shaka, Uri Irie, Mayu Yuzuki, Kimira Koyama, Yuan Yamazaki, Daisuke Miyamura, and Nanako Maehara, to convey this tragedy based on historical facts.

Takaya Okamoto, the Organizer who also wrote the TV Drama, stages a "Persistent" Adaptation

The original work for this production is the non-fiction book 'The Kamikaze Pilot and His Wife: August 19, Manchuria's Last Kamikaze Attack' (by Masayoshi Toyota / KADOKAWA). When it was adapted into a TV drama in 2015, starring Hiroki Narimiya and Maki Horikita, the script was written by Takaya Okamoto, the organizer of this theater group.

More than 10 years after the drama adaptation, Organizer Okamoto himself depicts the tragedy of war and ultimate marital love. We will deliver the "painfully sad final decision" made by a couple in Manchuria around the end of the war, as a soul-stirring musical.

To Become a Darling of the Japanese Musical World. The Evolving Challenge of "Gekidan Myu"

Only two years since its founding. The momentum is unstoppable, with an award nomination for the previous work 'Jeanne d'Arc' and a doubling of audience numbers (from 1,100 to over 2,000). Advance into "Owl Spot" this December and the sacred theater "Kinokuniya Hall" in autumn 2027 has also been decided, making this Op.6 a crucial step towards disseminating Japanese musicals to the world.

《Synopsis》

Inspired by true story.

Tetsuya and Masako met in a movie theater during the war and were strongly attracted to each other, but Tetsuya was assigned to Manchuria as a flight instructor. The two had parted once, but Masako managed to cross over to Manchuria and reunite with Tetsuya, beginning a modest newlywed life. However, Tetsuya suffered as his students died in kamikaze attacks.

Eventually, the war ended, and Manchuria fell into great chaos. Tetsuya and other pilots, having received information that Soviet forces were crossing the border and massacring Japanese civilians one after another, decided to make a kamikaze attack against the Soviet forces (despite the war having ended) to protect Japanese civilians.

"Please let me ride in that kamikaze plane too. Rather than suffer humiliation, I want to be with you."
