Established as a public interest corporation, its roots trace back to the Japan Physical Distribution Association (established in October 1970) and the Japan Logistics Management Council (established in November 1970). They were integrated and received permission to establish as an incorporated association jointly managed by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now METI) and the Ministry of Transport (now MLIT) on June 10, 1992. Subsequently, due to the reform of the public interest corporation system, it was certified by the Cabinet Office as a corporation bearing public interest and transitioned to a Public Interest Incorporated Association on August 2, 2010, which continues to this day.
