This program selects startups that are expected to achieve rapid "scale-up" by pursuing global expansion at this very moment, providing up to 200 million yen in financial support and customized hands-on assistance.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is promoting the SusHi Tech Global project to intensively support promising startups, and LiSTie was selected as one of the "SusHi Tech Global Startups" in February of this year. This time, LiSTie has been adopted into this program as a company that will accelerate global growth from among the "SusHi Tech Global Startups."

Through this program, LiSTie will accelerate the "social implementation of lithium resource recovery (recycling) technology from used lithium-ion batteries, which are increasing globally." With its independently developed ultra-high purity lithium recovery technology "LiSMIC," LiSTie aims to produce and supply ultra-high purity lithium with a purity of 99.99%, as required for battery raw materials, and establish its position as the world's first recycled lithium supplier.

Furthermore, in addition to contributing to low-environmental-impact lithium extraction technology in overseas salt lakes and mines, LiSTie also plans to stably supply lithium-6, which is essential for the production of fusion energy (nuclear fusion) fuel, in the future.

LiSTie will promote global business development starting from lithium resources, with the support of this program.

Features of Proprietary Technology LiSMIC

Our technology LiSMIC (Li Separation Method by Ionic Conductor) (Figure 1) uses a ceramic plate called an ionic conductor as a lithium separation membrane, thereby establishing the stable procurement and circulation (recycling) of finite lithium resources, which has been difficult until now.

The first feature of this technology is that it can directly recover lithium hydroxide, a raw material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) whose refining has been dependent on China, with just one membrane. The second feature is that it can refine lithium hydroxide that contains no impurities such as copper, which affect LIB performance. These features are not found in conventional technologies, and furthermore, it can provide lithium with low environmental impact and low cost.

Furthermore, in addition to lithium separation, since lithium-6 moves faster than lithium-7 in isotopes, it can contribute not only to lithium for LIBs but also to the supply of lithium-6, which is essential for the production of fusion energy (nuclear fusion) fuel, expected as a future base-load power source.
