Life Design Kabaya Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Kentaro Kubota / Headquarters: Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture) presents its 'Living Style Proposals,' a curated collection of diverse design ideas and home-building concepts tailored to ideal lifestyles and housing preferences.
On July 3, 2026 (Friday), the company will launch its seventh style: 'Nook Style.' This innovative concept introduces an additional personal space within the home, offering a new way of living.
In recent years, the spread of telework and evolving lifestyles, accelerated by the pandemic, have diversified how people spend time at home. Additionally, rising home construction costs have increased interest in maximizing limited spaces to enhance living quality.
Against this backdrop, attention is growing toward the 'nook'—a small, cozy space within the home that allows individuals to connect loosely with family while enjoying personal time. Responding to this shift in housing values, the company introduces 'Nook Style' as a new lifestyle concept, offering a modest 'private retreat' within the home.
◆ What is a Nook?
The term 'nook' originates from Scottish dialect, meaning a 'comfortable, compact space.' It traces back to the 'inglenook,' a bench placed beside a fireplace. In contemporary Japan, a nook is widely recognized as a small, relaxing area within a home.
A space of approximately 1 to 3 tatami mats (1.65–4.95 sqm) is sufficient to create a nook, which can be used for hobbies, work, or children's play areas. Depending on wall and door placement, nooks can range from open, family-connected areas to cozy, secluded retreats—offering flexible spatial planning.
◆ Nook Style Planning
・Japanese-Style Room – Seclusion Level ★☆☆
