Libalent Inc., NTT Solmare Corporation, and NTT Docomo Studio & Live, Inc. will launch a joint project starting in March 2026, aimed at expanding the fan base of Japanese 'Romance Fantasy' manga in the North American market. In this project, approximately 100 volumes of Japanese romance-fantasy genre manga will be localized into English annually and distributed exclusively on 'MangaPlaza', one of the largest digital manga distribution stores in the US, operated by NTT Solmare.
In recent years, 'Romantasy', a genre that fuses Romance and Fantasy, has been expanding in popularity in the North American publishing market, driving market growth. Meanwhile, in the Japanese manga sector, the 'Romance Fantasy' genre has been gathering popularity for several years, yet there are still many works that have not been adequately introduced overseas.
Against this backdrop, MangaPlaza, one of the largest Japanese manga distribution platforms in North America, and 'S&L Publishing', a joint label by NTT Docomo Studio & Live and Libalent, have collaborated to launch this project. In the project, Libalent will handle title selection, rights procurement, translation, and typesetting, while MangaPlaza will manage distribution and sales promotion. Furthermore, NTT Docomo Studio & Live will support the construction of a project promotion framework utilizing its abundant resources. Under these collaborations, and with the cooperation of domestic publishers and authors, approximately 100 volumes of English-language works are scheduled to be released in 2026.
By expanding the fan base of Japanese Romance Fantasy manga in the US, the world's largest content market, we aim to create new markets and return value to the content industry, including Japanese authors and creators.
