Leica Camera Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) is pleased to announce the photo exhibition "Colour Matter(s)" by Portuguese photographer Teresa Freitas.

Freitas has built her unique visual language by traversing the realms of street, documentary, and fine art, with color as her central theme.

Her work presents a new perspective in contemporary photography by treating color not merely as decoration, but as a fundamental force that constructs space and guides perception.

In moments where light and color resonate, quietly connecting distant places, Freitas's photographs transcend geographical and cultural boundaries, revealing new contours of the world within a visual continuum.

Leica Gallery Kyoto will present the series "Colour Matter(s)," which treats color not as a decorative layer but as a fundamental structure that constructs space, shapes perception, and builds meaning in photography. In this exhibition, you can view a collection of works that observe how the world is visually constructed, going beyond mere documentation of events.

Color is perceived as a crucial element in constructing the "experience of place," presented as the driving force that creates the image itself and the space expanding within it. Motifs such as architecture, public spaces, and people are connected by the relationships of color, bringing a quiet integration within each work. Furthermore, when photographs taken in different places and times are placed in dialogue, color functions as a nodal point, creating resonance across distances through harmony and contrast. Seemingly unrelated landscapes are gently connected by color tones, quietly revealing a continuity that transcends geographical separation.
