Starting in October 2026, a concert tour commemorating the 30th anniversary of Hideki Togi, Japan's leading Gagaku performer, will be held across the country, beginning with a performance in Fukuoka and continuing to Tokyo, Osaka, Aichi, and other regions. The theme of the first act is "Silk Road," tracing the origins of music. The melodies woven by ancient instruments, while rooted in Japanese Gagaku, carry the memories of the world that traversed East and West. We will deliver a one-of-a-kind stage performance that can only be heard here, featuring various combinations of instruments used in Japanese Shinto rituals—such as the sho, hichiriki, ryuteki, and biwa—alongside other ancient Silk Road instruments. In the second act, the sound transforms into rock. With the resonance of Japanese tradition at its core, it intersects with Western band sounds, fusing the past and future, and the world and Japan, on a single stage. Both the first and second acts will feature his son, Norichika Togi, a guitarist who also performs Gagaku on instruments like the sho. This parent-child collaboration is a true embodiment of music being passed down to the next generation. We look forward to seeing you at the venue. Comment from Hideki Togi Before I knew it, 30 years had passed since my album debut. Someone once told me that my existence and the role I have played are so revolutionary that the distinction between "before Togi" and "after Togi" has become essential when discussing Gagaku. I didn't consciously aim for that, but if I have been able to convey the values of Japan's oldest traditional culture—which we are proud to share with the world—to many people, then I can look back and feel happy that my debut was meaningful. If that is the case, then even 30 years later, and from here on out, I want to remain a revolutionary. The passion I felt at the time of my debut has never cooled. Fun ideas are a great catalyst for conveying the intrigue of classical Gagaku, and it is only because I have respect and confidence in the classics that I can take on new challenges with pride. There is still so much I want to convey and do. I would be very happy if you could feel the "now" of Hideki Togi and join me in dreaming of what lies ahead through the classics, past works, and new creations.
