International Mindfulness Center JAPAN (Representative: Kiyoko Inoue, hereinafter "IMCJ") will hold a silent retreat titled "Resting in Awareness - Deepening the Essence of MBSR for 6 Days" for 5 nights and 6 days from Saturday, August 1 to Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Kuu Retreat, a small forest retreat in Saikai City, Nagasaki Prefecture.
Background and Purpose of the Retreat
Through our learning of MBSR and MBP, we have repeatedly practiced "being aware of and resting in the present moment." However, maintaining that quality in daily life is not easy. When we open our smartphones, information floods in, and by constantly responding to roles and words, we can unknowingly become trapped in a "conceptualized world."
In this retreat, for 6 days, we will distance ourselves from digital devices, daily roles, and communication through "words." We will engage in practices such as sitting meditation, walking meditation, mindful movement, eating meditation, and samu (working meditation) amidst the tranquility of the summer forest.
The scent of the summer forest, the sound of the wind, and the sensations of our own breath and body. Simply being with these will provide an opportunity to touch "raw experience" before it is conceptualized, allowing participants to deepen the roots of their own practice.

Preparation for Kuu Retreat, the venue, began in December 2025 with the felling of trees and bamboo in the forest, and the ridge-raising ceremony was held on January 30, 2026. The retreat is gradually being shaped as a safe place for practitioners to return to at any time. Currently, a meditation hall, accommodation rooms, and a tea room are being prepared.
