Kurosawa grandsons Inc. (Location: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: So Kurosawa) launched "Kurosawa Costume," a new brand exclusive to e-commerce sites by active film and drama costume designers, today, May 1, 2026.

In conjunction with this, we are announcing a collaboration product with Porter Classic Co., Ltd. (Location: 2-9-4 Hanakawado, Taito-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Ryo Yoshida).

Porter Classic and Kurosawa

The connection between Porter Classic and Kurosawa began when Kichizo Yoshida, the grandfather of Porter Classic's representative Ryo Yoshida and father of Katsuyuki Yoshida, produced the leather bag that appeared as an important prop in "High and Low."

Later, our parent company's representative, Takayuki Kato, who received a consultation regarding the Porter Classic x Akira Kurosawa collaboration product released by Porter Classic for the 70th anniversary of "Seven Samurai," hit it off with film enthusiast Ryo Yoshida, leading to this current collaboration.

All of us at Kurosawa Costume are delighted to announce this product, thanks to the efforts of Ryo Yoshida, Porter Classic, and the artisans.

One piece of fabric from Kurosawa's actual clothing is incorporated every 3cm into the material.

Saki-ori Fabric

In the Edo period, fabric was extremely valuable.

At that time, people would tear worn-out clothes and unusable futons into fine strips and re-weave them into fabric using a technique called "Saki-ori" (torn weaving), thus reusing unusable fabric.

This "AKIRA KUROSAWA SCRIPT COVER" uses "Saki-ori" fabric made from items Akira Kurosawa actually wore that had become unusable due to holes or wear.

This product is also connected to the modern concept of upcycling.

Kurosawa in the Modern Field

The reason for making a script cover from fabric worn by Kurosawa.

This began with Ryo Yoshida's words: "Wouldn't it be wonderful if actors and directors on today's film sets carried a script cover made with fabric from Director Kurosawa's clothes?"

This perfectly aligns with the Kurosawa Costume concept of "wearing film," "wearing tradition," and "wearing Kurosawa,"

and thus, the development of this product began.

The reliable techniques of Porter Classic, the playful spirit of Ryo Yoshida, and the fabric imbued with the essence of Kurosawa have merged to create a wonderful Script Cover.
