Kumamoto University has developed a rare strain with enhanced brewing suitability through unique breeding technology, focusing on aroma expression. This strain, "Fission Yeast Japonicus," was bred by a research group led by Specially Appointed Professor Tokuo Tani of the Institute of Industrial Nanomaterials. Fission Yeast Japonicus diverged from the budding yeast commonly used in brewing approximately 500 million years ago and is characterized by its binary fission reproduction.

In collaboration with BREWING 100 (Hanaoka, Ashikita-gun, Ashikita-cho, Kumamoto Prefecture), Professor Tani's group has developed "Kumadai Craft Beer JAPONICUS" using the "Fission Yeast Kumadai M35 Strain" they developed. This product will be available in limited quantities starting Monday, July 6th of this year at the Kumamoto University Co-op (Brewing and Sales: BREWING 100).

This product will be sold as a Kumamoto University Fund donation item. 100 yen from each purchase will be donated to the Kumamoto University Fund.

Kumadai Craft Beer JAPONICUS Label Design

[Concept Behind the Design]

The label design features an impressive bear character with a playful touch characteristic of craft beer. The background is adorned with a pattern inspired by the Japonicus yeast, and the bear's eyebrows are depicted in a friendly manner, evoking the foam of craft beer.

We aimed for a label that would make people want to pick it up, allowing them to feel the charm of yeast born from research and the dedication to aroma and taste.
