Kyoto University of Foreign Studies (President: Toshiro Kita, Location: Ukyo-ku, Kyoto City), Department of Russian Studies, Faculty of Foreign Studies, will host the "3rd National Russian-speaking Region Presentation Competition" on Saturday, June 13, 2026, following last year's event. This competition is based on the university's founding spirit, "PAX MUNDI PER LINGUAS - Peace in the World Through Languages," and aims to foster the deep interest and research outcomes that young people, who will lead the next generation, have in the society and culture of Russian-speaking regions, and to widely disseminate them to the world.

Report on the 2nd competition last year is available here.

■ Background and Social Significance of the Event: A Place for Exploration that Does Not Stop "Dialogue"

At our university, we believe that language is not merely a means of communication, but a bridge to understanding different cultures and building peace. Especially now, with complex international situations continuing, the existence of young people who view the vast cultural sphere of Russian-speaking regions from a flat perspective and deepen their learning holds great significance for society.

This competition is a venue where participants, starting from their "Oshi" (favorite thing), present their deeply explored content from their unique perspectives in Japanese. Through dialogue with experts and interaction with peers, we aim to broaden understanding of the "real Russian-speaking regions" from multiple angles.

■ Presentation Theme: "My Favorite Russian-speaking Region"

Participants will present on topics they are genuinely interested in and want to convey to others, such as entertainment, news, education, social activities, products, infrastructure, transportation, cuisine, arts, history, and academia.

Beyond simply introducing information, we emphasize a structure that focuses on the following processes:

Motivation and Involvement: Why did you become interested in that subject?

Process of Exploration: What media or methods did you use for your research?

Future Outlook: How will you develop this exploration in the future?

The fresh yet profound research outcomes presented from the perspectives of both the high school division and the general division will provide new insights to educators and those interested in international exchange.
