KRAFTON JAPAN Inc. announces the first major update for 'MIMESIS,' a cooperative horror game developed by creative studio ReLU Games.
The core of this update is to enhance user experience by refining the decision-making and behavior patterns of the AI-driven NPC 'Mimesis' and restructuring the game's progression system.
MIMESIS Update Details
This update has been prepared based on player feedback gathered during the early access period.
- Key Changes - Enhanced AI-driven NPCs and revised progression structure - Expanded content including maps, monsters, and equipment
Enhanced AI-Driven NPCs and Restructured Progression
The decision logic of the AI-driven monster 'Mimesis,' which forms the core gameplay appeal, has been significantly refined. Unlike traditional co-op horror game enemies that follow pre-designed behavioral patterns, the monsters in this game learn from in-game audio and player actions, perceive their surroundings, and react dynamically. Approaches to players are now more natural and varied. By adding individual personalities to each AI entity, each NPC now exhibits unique behaviors. As a result, players face monsters that attempt to deceive them in new ways every time, rather than relying on predictable patterns.
The game's progression structure has also been restructured. The previous system, which advanced in fixed 3-day cycles, has been replaced with a more flexible design, and overall difficulty has been rebalanced. The early stages encourage natural player adaptation, while tension intensifies toward the end. The core objective is to reduce predictability—minimizing reliance on memorizing enemy patterns, lowering the entry barrier for new players, and requiring experienced players to make fresh decisions and responses in every playthrough.
Expanded Content: Maps, Monsters, and Equipment
Maps have been expanded. New interior layouts have been added to the factory, subway station, and mansion dungeon, while outdoor areas have been redesigned with new movement paths and object placements, enabling players to explore and gather resources in more diverse environments.
Content has also been further enriched.
New monsters and environmental mechanics have been introduced. Key equipment now features upgrade systems to enhance performance. A new function allowing players to throw and utilize resources has been added, broadening the range of available strategies.
The spectator mode has also been updated. Players who are eliminated can now possess the monster that threatened them and communicate with surviving teammates, maintaining tension and engagement throughout the game.
Comment from Kim Min-jung, CEO of ReLU Games
"MIMESIS proves that AI can go beyond being a mere development tool and become a core element that innovates gameplay and creates fundamental excitement.
With this update, AI has entered a phase where it transforms the very grammar of the co-op horror genre. Building on our accumulated technical and creative capabilities, we will continue our bold challenge of integrating AI and gaming to deliver differentiated player experiences."
About 'MIMESIS'
'MIMESIS' is a 4-player cooperative horror game powered by AI technology. The AI-driven monster 'Mimesis' mimics players' movements and voices in real time and infiltrates their group, creating intense suspense. As an 'AI-native game' with AI embedded into its core structure, it functions not just as a system component but as a crucial element shaping the entire gameplay experience.
Since its early access release last October, the game surpassed 1 million cumulative global sales within just 50 days.
In June this year, it became the first Korean game title to win the Excellence Award in the Game Design category at Japan's largest game developer conference, 'CEDEC AWARD 2026,' earning high praise for its innovative integration of AI into game development.
KRAFTON plans to expand 'MIMESIS' into a major franchise, building on the global attention it has received since early access.
