Kotsu Shimbun Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Yoshimichi Ito) will co-host a talk event, "Asia Meshi Night in Shinjuku ~Two People Talk About Foreign Flavors and Communities~," with Book 1st Shinjuku Store to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the monthly magazine "Sanpo no Tatsujin." The event will be held on July 23, 2026 (Thu) at the Book 1st Shinjuku Store B2F, F Zone Event Space.
The event will feature Hirokazu Murohashi, a writer specializing in Asia, and Keita Katsushika, a manga artist and illustrator from and residing in Katsushika Ward. The two, who both have serializations in "Sanpo no Tatsujin," will discuss the charm of Asian cuisine in Shinjuku, as well as foreign food in Eastern Tokyo and Toronto, Canada, and the communities of towns and people. Additionally, a "Shin-Okubo Food Tour Virtual Tour" will be conducted at the event. Mika Hiraiwa, editor-in-chief of "Sanpo no Tatsujin," will serve as the moderator.

Speaker Profiles
Hirokazu Murohashi
Born in 1974. After working as a weekly magazine reporter, he moved to Thailand. He worked for a Japanese information magazine based locally and covered Thailand and surrounding countries for 10 years. After returning to Japan, he has worked as a writer and editor specializing in Asia. His books include "Kanto no Ikai: Ethnic Route 354" (Shinchosha), "Rupo Shin-Okubo" (KADOKAWA), and "Curry Immigrants' Mystery: The 'Inneppa' Conquering Japan" (Shueisha Shinsho).
Keita Katsushika
Manga artist and illustrator from and residing in Katsushika Ward. He began publishing manga in doujinshi and other publications from the 2010s, and also works as an illustrator for magazine and book cover art. He is currently serializing "Mizu to Aruku" (Sanpo no Tatsujin), "'Mizu to Aruku' wo Aruku" (web Santatsu), "Hitotsara, Hitotoki, Shimiru Yoru" (Metro Minu), and "Higashi Tokyo Ku Ku" (Torch Web).
Yoshika Hiraiwa
Born in Tokyo in 1972. Joined Kousai Publishing (now Kotsu Shimbun Inc.) in 1996. After working in the editorial departments of "JR Jikoku-hyo," "Tabi no Techou," and "Sanpo no Tatsujin," she was in charge of promotions utilizing magazine brands, anniversary histories, and free magazine production. She is currently the 8th Editor-in-Chief of "Sanpo no Tatsujin."
The History of "Sanpo no Tatsujin"
November 1995: "Sanpo no Tatsujin," a magazine for adult metropolitan area strolls, released as a special issue of "Tabi no Techou."
March 1996: The first issue, "Sanpo no Tatsujin" April 1996, released. B5 size, perfect bound, priced at 480 yen. The first special feature was "Temptations of the Backstreets."
June 1997 issue: Renewed to A4 variant size, saddle-stitched.
April 2006 issue: 10th Anniversary. The special feature for the 10th anniversary issue was "Ueno, Asakusa, Senju."
September 2014 issue: Electronic version distribution begins.
April 2016 issue: 20th Anniversary. As part of the 20th-anniversary project, special features on "100 Izakayas," "100 Restaurants," and "100 Cafes" were presented in three consecutive issues from April to June.
October 2019: Web media "Santatsu by Sanpo no Tatsujin" launched.
March 2026: Special 30th Anniversary Issue (April issue) "30 Years of Tokyo and Strolls" released.
