Kagoshima National College of Technology (Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, Principal: Etsuko Ueda, hereinafter "Kagoshima KOSEN") and National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Kanoya (Kanoya City, Kagoshima Prefecture, President: Hiroaki KANEHISA) signed a partnership agreement on Friday, March 27, Reiwa 8 (2026) to promote the development of education, research, and regional contribution.

Background of the Agreement and Expected Effects

This agreement aims to create new value by leveraging the respective expertise of the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Kanoya, the only national sports university in Japan, and Kagoshima KOSEN, which has strengths in engineering education. In recent years, Kagoshima KOSEN has been focusing on education that emphasizes "Well-being" and has developed its unique characteristics through collaboration with local sports clubs. On the other hand, the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Kanoya actively promotes regional contribution centered on sports and martial arts through its "NPO Corporation NIFS Sports Club." Through the cooperation of both institutions, multifaceted effects are expected, including the creation of new knowledge through the integration of engineering and sports, improvement of students' motivation to learn, and revitalization of the region through sports.

Collaboration Details and Specific Initiatives

The agreement confirmed a wide range of collaborations, including the mutual dispatch of part-time lecturers, credit transfer, joint seminars and graduation research, and the promotion of joint research utilizing Sports DX and AI. Furthermore, student exchange, joint presentation sessions, measurement tours, and support for the transition from KOSEN to university, such as career counseling, are also planned to be strengthened.
