The National Institute of Technology, Kagoshima College (Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture; Principal: Etsuko Ueda; hereinafter "Kagoshima College") and the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Kanoya (Kanoya City, Kagoshima Prefecture; President: Hiroaki Kanehisa) signed a partnership agreement on Friday, March 27, 2026, with the goal of developing education, research, and regional contribution.

■ Background and Expected Effects of the Agreement

This agreement brings together the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Kanoya, the only national university in Japan specializing in sports, and Kagoshima College, which excels in engineering education, to create new value by leveraging their respective expertise.
In recent years, Kagoshima College has been focusing on education centered on "well-being" and has developed by collaborating with local sports clubs. Meanwhile, the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Kanoya has been actively promoting regional contribution through sports and martial arts via the NPO "NIFS Sports Club." Through this cooperation, multifaceted effects are expected, including the creation of new knowledge through the intersection of engineering and sports, increased student motivation, and regional revitalization through sports.

■ Scope of Cooperation and Proposed Initiatives

The agreement confirms a wide range of collaborations, including the mutual dispatch of part-time lecturers, credit transfer, joint seminars and graduation research, and the promotion of joint research utilizing sports DX and AI. Furthermore, plans are in place to strengthen support for students transitioning from the college to the university, including student exchanges, joint presentations, measurement tours, and academic/career counseling.
