Konel (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a creative company based in Japan, New York, and Milan under the philosophy of “Good Singularity,” has won the 2026 iF Design Award for the 'Relation Wall' project, in which it participated as a creative partner for Daikyo Co., Ltd.

'Relation Wall' is a movable wall system that travels along ceiling rails, allowing users to partition or connect spaces and flexibly change floor plans according to their lifestyle needs. By offering a 'Non-LDK' alternative, it breaks free from the limitations of fixed models, accommodating diverse family structures and modern lifestyles. This development is positioned as a solution to enhance home value, with implementation targeted for 2030.

Launched by Daikyo, the project involved multiple partners, including Yuko Nagayama & Associates. As a creative partner, Konel was responsible for the design and production of the wall itself, prototyping the drive mechanism, and producing the official website.

Background: 'Relation Wall – From Separating Walls to Connecting Walls'

Due to the spread of dual-income households and remote work, homes are shifting from places to 'rest' into multi-functional spaces for 'working, raising children, and enjoying leisure.' However, traditional 'LDK' (Living, Dining, Kitchen) floor plans struggle to accommodate these diverse functions, potentially causing stress for families. 'Relation Wall' was born to address these changes by allowing spaces to be flexibly adjusted.

By installing circular rail modules on the ceiling, the wall itself can move freely within the room. When an individual needs time alone for remote work, it creates private spaces; when spending time with the family, the walls can be rolled up into columns. It allows users to transform a single room as needed, such as concealing private spaces when guests visit. With a structure that moves fluidly like a curtain but retains a tangible presence, it balances privacy and openness to realize a comfortable and flexible living environment.

'Relation Wall' provides a new 'Non-LDK' choice that empowers residents to utilize their homes more freely, addressing diverse lifestyle needs. Development is ongoing with the goal of 2030 implementation.
