NHK's "Darwin's Game" is a leading Japanese nature program that focuses on wild creatures and conducts thorough location shoots in pursuit of scoop footage. This year marks its 20th anniversary since its broadcast began in 2006. It boasts outstanding popularity for its high-quality content full of surprises, and has even won the award for "No. 1 Program Children Want to Show Their Children"*. Now, "Darwin's Game" and Kodansha's "MOVE Moving Encyclopedia," celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, have joined forces to create the collaborative encyclopedia "Darwin's Game: A Complete Encyclopedia of Life on Earth." Both "Darwin's Game" and "MOVE" directly confront curiosity and are produced with that in mind. This has resulted in an encyclopedia full of surprise and fun, created under a genuine collaborative production system that goes beyond mere production supervision!

The encyclopedia is structured to incorporate as much of the program's feel as possible. The approximately 270 creatures introduced from about 950 broadcasts are also presented in relation to the program. It also features behind-the-scenes stories and off-shots from the program, as well as a "Wait a Minute!" Q&A corner with the program's main character, Old Man Hige.

Many popular creatures among viewers, such as wombats and long-tailed tits, are featured. All the main titles are program names. It is designed to make learning about creatures fun while looking back at the program. (From "Darwin's Game: A Complete Encyclopedia of Life on Earth")

For this reason, program directors have fully cooperated in its production. Not only were materials like off-shots taken during location shoots and little-known behind-the-scenes stories provided, but even the producer who came up with the program's name at its start in 2006 shared his story, making this a "rich volume" that tightly encapsulates 20 years of the program. A list of broadcast episodes from the past 20 years is also included, which fans might enjoy tracing one by one. Please enjoy the world of creatures from "Darwin's Game" from both the front and back.

The left page shows an off-shot from filming a coelacanth in the deep sea. Little-known behind-the-scenes stories told by the program directors are also included. (From "Darwin's Game: A Complete Encyclopedia of Life on Earth")

Of course, it's not just a rehash of the program; MOVE guarantees the knowledge as an encyclopedia. Through Professor MOVE's in-depth columns and introductions to creature habitats, it expands curiosity three-dimensionally, not just through simple knowledge.

Relive that broadcast episode you wanted to see again!? A DVD featuring a selection of surprising visual masterpieces from the program's 20-year history.

The splendor of this collaborative encyclopedia is not limited to the book itself. Another noteworthy feature is the accompanying bonus DVD. It includes recommended footage and memorable shoots selected by the directors of "Darwin's Game." This is an incredibly luxurious item, condensed into 72 minutes from 20 years of broadcasts, that you wouldn't expect as an appendix. Furthermore, Old Man Hige also participates in the DVD!? It's a special video that will captivate not only "Darwin's Game" fans but also children and adults alike!

First edition limited edition includes a sticker sheet for the popular anime "Manul's Evening" that appears at the end of the "Darwin's Game" program!

This encyclopedia, where you can enjoy the program's feel in various places, features "Manul's Evening" at the end of the book, just like in the program, along with the program directors and main character Old Man Hige. As a first edition limited bonus, you get a sticker sheet that can only be obtained here. These are rare stickers of the main characters, including Mama Manul!

Just as Charles Darwin, after whom the program is named, landed in the Americas as the first stop on his Beagle voyage, the journey through the creatures in this encyclopedia also begins in North and South America and extends to every corner of the globe. It is perfect as a reference for children's free research or for adults' refresher learning. This summer, why not open the door to curiosity with this encyclopedia as your starting point?
