As part of Kobe City University of Foreign Studies' (hereafter, our university) Model United Nations program, 12 current students and 2 faculty members were dispatched to the 'German Model United Nations Conference (GerMUN: German Model United Nations)' held in Cologne, Germany, from Thursday, February 26, 2026, to Sunday, March 1, 2026.

1. After the German Model United Nations Conference (GerMUN)
From the start of the conference, our university's students actively formed negotiation groups and exchanged opinions with students from all over Germany. Over four days, they engaged in meaningful discussions towards building cooperation and achieving consensus, earnestly addressed the challenges facing the international community, and fostered friendships with the participating German students.

This educational program contributes to the development of global citizens who can contribute to the realization of world peace and a sustainable society. Through this experience, our university's students were able to cultivate an international perspective and collaborative problem-solving skills.

2. About the Model United Nations Program
Model United Nations is an educational activity originating in the United States, where participants take on the role of national delegations, similar to actual UN conferences. Its purpose is to deepen understanding of real international issues through discussions and other activities, while enhancing negotiation skills, debate abilities, and overall international communication skills, including language proficiency.

A characteristic of our university's Model United Nations program is the fusion of simulations (virtual) conducted in Model UN conferences with experiential learning (real) gained by visiting actual UN sites. By participating in study tours to UN Headquarters in New York and the UN European Headquarters in Geneva, and observing the activities of international organizations firsthand, students gain a deeper and more practical understanding of the Model UN discussions and simulations conducted in the classroom.

Through this combined virtual and real learning, students deepen their understanding of international issues and aim to cultivate the vision and practical skills needed to be active in the international community, which is a major feature of our university's Model United Nations program.
