Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka; President: Kazuichi Toyoda; hereinafter, "the Company") collaborated with sex education media "Meiiku®" (operated by Siblings LLC; hereinafter, "Meiiku®") to produce booklets educating elementary school girls about bodily changes and vaginal discharge, and created a "First Discharge Kit" that includes products useful for discharge care. This kit was distributed free of charge (by lottery, limited to 1,000 kits) to PTAs and organizations nationwide.

This project, launched in October 2025, is a joint initiative by the Company, which developed "Saralie," Japan's first panty liner, and "Meiiku." The aim of distributing this kit is to encourage conversations about "vaginal discharge" between parents and children, helping girls to positively approach the bodily changes of puberty.

Topics

- Over 5 times the expected applications. Urgent demand from PTAs and schools nationwide.
When the distribution quantity was expanded from the previous 500 to 1,000 kits, and school health rooms were added as distribution points, over 5,225 sets of applications, more than 5 times the planned number, were received.

- "Learning Time" led by a male PTA chairman. Sex education transcending gender.
At Adachi City Senju Futaba Elementary School, a male PTA chairman took the lead in organizing an event where parents and visitors learned about "vaginal discharge" together.

- Installation in "Toilets and Health Rooms" to subtly support school life.
In addition to distributing kits, awareness posters were put up in girls' restrooms and kits were placed in health rooms, creating a system where children can access information safely at any time.

Background of Implementation

Currently, sex education in elementary schools is undergoing a major transformation. While the average age for menarche (first menstruation) is around 12, vaginal discharge often begins 1 to 2 years earlier, with some girls experiencing bodily changes in elementary school. However, there are few opportunities to specifically teach about "vaginal discharge" at home, and many girls secretly worry, thinking, "My underwear is dirty" or "I might be sick." The background to receiving over five times the planned number of applications from PTAs and schools nationwide for this distribution was the underlying challenge that both homes and schools faced: "We want to teach, but we don't know how." The Company launched this project to provide an opportunity for parents and children to address this "first anxiety" together.

Report on Implementation at Adachi City Senju Futaba Elementary School

On December 11, 2025, an awareness event for this project was held at Adachi City Senju Futaba Elementary School. Mainly parents gathered by PTA announcements, along with boys and girls from 3rd to 6th grade, participated.

1. Program for parents and children to learn together
Parents watched a video explaining "how to talk about vaginal discharge to children," and then joined their children to attend a lecture by the Company's representative. During the lecture, actual panty liners were used to explain the mechanism of protecting the body, demonstrating how to attach and dispose of them.

2. Distribution of "First Discharge Kit" and booklets to children
At the end of the event, the PTA distributed both the "First Discharge Kit" and the booklet "First Discharge Kit BOOK" to the girls. The "First Discharge Kit BOOK" was also distributed to boys, creating an opportunity for all children, regardless of gender, to access correct knowledge.

On-site Interview: Voices of the PTA Chairman and Parents

We interviewed Mr. Kawai, the PTA chairman who promoted this initiative, and the board members for their feedback after implementation.

(Project/Interview Cooperation: PTA-exclusive support service "PTA'S")

Chairman Kawai (father of two boys):
"Honestly, when they first said 'vaginal discharge,' it didn't really click for me. But I wanted to update my own knowledge, so I decided to participate in the project. I knew about sanitary boxes, but I had never thought about their contents or how to handle them. The more I learned, the more I felt that women have it tough. There was a time when I thought girls who skipped gym class due to menstruation were 'cheating,' but that was because I didn't know how difficult it was. After hearing today's talk, I deeply understood how truly painful it can be. The vague image of it being something dirty changed to an understanding that it's something important that protects the body. I feel that even men can be considerate if they just know."
