Five Hotels in Kyushu Area Introduce 'Sustainable Umbrellas with Logos'

GREEN'S CORPORATION (Headquarters: Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture; President and Representative Director: Yuya Muraki; Securities Code: 6547), which boasts over 60 years of hotel operating experience, primarily with the global brand 'Comfort Hotel,' has commenced an initiative at five hotels in the Kyushu area, including 'Comfort Hotel Kokura' (Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture), to switch from conventional plastic umbrellas to long-handled umbrellas bearing the hotel's logo for guest rental.

Hotels operated by our company currently use plastic umbrellas for guest rentals. However, the 50cm small umbrellas currently in use have durability issues, leading to breakage and loss depending on the usage environment. This necessitates continuous replenishment, resulting in an estimated annual disposal of approximately 240 plastic umbrellas per hotel, equivalent to about 3,200 plastic bottles.

In addition to this situation, considering the societal progress in plastic reduction initiatives, such as the introduction of fees for plastic shopping bags, we have examined environmentally friendly measures that can be implemented at the hotel level, leading to the adoption of these 'sustainable umbrellas with logos.'

By switching from plastic umbrellas to reusable umbrellas that can be used repeatedly over a long period, we aim to reduce the number of umbrellas discarded due to damage. Furthermore, by placing the hotel brand logo on the umbrellas, we also aim to reduce the number of discards by deterring loss.

This initiative falls under 'Environmentally and Socially Conscious Procurement,' one of the key sustainability issues set forth by our company.
