Japan Metropolitan Fund Investment Corporation (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) announced that "Soranoma," the 3F rooftop terrace of its commercial facility "Machinoma Omori" (Ota-ku, Tokyo), reopened following renovation in March 2026.
The new "Soranoma" is built around the concept of "A Connected Soranoma" — a rooftop terrace where visitors can relax in their own way under the Omori sky: lying down, climbing, sitting and chatting as they please.
Cloud-shaped benches and sky-blue cushions are arranged on an undulating wooden deck, creating a space where children can play while developing curiosity about the sky and natural phenomena. Adults can also sit back, gaze at the sky, and comfortably refresh themselves. The design contributes to an intellectually stimulating environment for children while offering a comfortable and inviting space for all visitors.
The aim is to provide a space where local residents feel a deeper affinity and can comfortably relax as part of their everyday lives.
■ Community Contribution and Revitalization Initiatives
Machinoma Omori places great importance on its role as a "community hub that stands alongside the local community."
KJR Management, which operates Japan Metropolitan Fund Investment Corporation, works on a variety of social contribution activities under its mission statement "Unlocking Real Assets' Future," including from the perspective of "partnership with stakeholders."
The new "Soranoma" is also envisioned for use in events aimed at community contribution and revitalization, with the goal of creating a vibrant gathering place co-created with local residents.
For the renovation design, Studio Genkumagaya Co., Ltd. — a landscape design firm behind numerous domestic and international projects including JP Tower Yokohama — provided the design and supervision. The space features many fun elements, including cloud-shaped benches that children can jump on and informational signage with a cloud encyclopedia where visitors can learn about different types of clouds. Overall construction management of the terrace was handled by Hibiya-Kadan Co., Ltd., which has an extensive track record in both indoor and outdoor landscaping. The cloud-shaped benches were manufactured and installed by sixinch Co., Ltd., which has a delivery record at parks within Tokyo.
■ Design and Features of "Soranoma"
This renovation incorporates visual and sensory elements throughout so visitors can feel at one with the sky. The space is designed for people of all ages to use freely — from resting on stepped seating to using the observation area overlooking the town. Fluffy cloud-shaped play equipment is installed on the wooden deck, creating a symbolic space where children can play while feeling connected to the sky. The cushion colors are inspired by the gradient of the sky as it changes throughout the day. Visitors can compare the cushion colors with the sky above and enjoy a relaxing time.
The facility is also committed to "creating an environment-friendly and people-friendly space," actively adopting eco-conscious materials.
・Eco-material wooden deck: "Handy Wood," made from 90% recycled materials, has been adopted to help reduce environmental impact.
・Safe and clean artificial turf: A product free of any rubber chip or other infill materials was selected. In addition to environmental and aesthetic considerations, it also helps suppress surface temperature rise, providing a soft environment where children can play safely.
・Recycled wood planting bed protective fence: The fencing around planting areas uses highly durable recycled artificial...
