KISSHIN365 (Location: Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, Representative: Okumura) has launched the coffee teapot "Koga -KOGA-", jointly developed with Mr. Taiki Okuda, the third-generation potter of "Kohachi," a Shigaraki ware kiln founded in 1955. Pre-sale began on the crowdfunding service "Makuake" on March 24, 2026. Featuring a sealed design that intentionally omits the lid hole found in typical teapots, combined with the far-infrared properties of Shigaraki clay derived from the ancient Lake Biwa layer approximately 4 million years ago, it delivers a coffee experience where concentrated aroma spreads the moment the lid is opened. It uses an all-immersion method where you simply pour hot water and wait for 3 minutes, reproducing a stable taste without requiring technical skill. The planned general sale price is 11,800 yen (tax included), while the Makuake early bird supporter price starts from 8,614 yen (tax included, 27% OFF).

Background of "Koga -KOGA-"

In recent years, while more people are enjoying coffee at home, the demand for extraction methods that suit individual preferences is also increasing. Hand drip coffee's taste can vary depending on pouring technique, French presses can result in fine grounds, and capsule coffee often lacks sufficient aroma. Existing appliances required compromises between convenience and quality. To address these issues, KISSHIN365, based in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, challenged the fusion of traditional Shigaraki ware techniques with coffee culture.

Typical teapots have a "lid hole" for steam release. However, this simultaneously allowed coffee aroma compounds to escape. Koga intentionally omits the lid hole and adopts a design that circulates steam internally by applying glaze to the underside of the lid. The experience of trapped aroma gently rising the moment the lid is opened during extraction is something unobtainable with existing coffee equipment.

[2] Richness and Umami Born from 4-Million-Year-Old Clay — Ancient Lake Biwa Layer Shigaraki Clay

The body of Koga uses Shigaraki clay originating from the ancient Lake Biwa layer, approximately 4 million years ago. Utilizing the unique texture of Shigaraki ware, it has been finished as a vessel to enrich your daily coffee time.

[3] Smoothness Harmonized by Unglazed Interior — Shigaraki's Clay Surface Adsorbs the Edges of Off-flavors and Acidity

Koga employs an "unglazed interior finish" where no glaze is applied to the inside. The rough surface of Shigaraki clay adsorbs...
