## Background of Introducing 'Obstetrics/Gynecology & Pediatrics Online'
Tomisato City in Chiba Prefecture faced the challenge of having limited pediatric and obstetric medical resources within the city. Particularly during sudden illnesses at night or on holidays, residents had to rely on medical institutions in neighboring municipalities, including Narita City. Furthermore, with the progression of nuclear families, resolving the 'sense of isolation' among parents who have no one close to consult with was set as an important theme. Under these circumstances, they found a demand for online consultations to supplement traditional in-person and telephone consultation windows, aiming to support expectant mothers during times when going out is difficult, and parents who find it hard to express their true feelings in person.
To solve these issues and support the peace of mind of citizens, the free trial of 'Obstetrics/Gynecology & Pediatrics Online' was started in April 2025. This experimental initiative aimed to complement existing administrative services and further enhance hands-on consultation support by preparing an environment where users can connect with obstetricians, midwives, and pediatricians anytime and anywhere via smartphones and other devices. They also expected to uncover potential targets of support who feel psychological hurdles regarding face-to-face consultations, constructing a 'safety net that leaves no one behind'.
We have received feedback from users during the trial period such as, 'I feel very relieved to get answers from specialists,' 'Even late on Sunday nights, I could ask questions about my concerns, giving me peace of mind,' and 'They responded very carefully and empathetically, making it feel like I was actually having a medical examination.'
In addition, in the 'Anytime Consultation', which allows 24-hour consultation in a Q&A format, consultations sent at night accounted for about half, suggesting a potential demand for consultations during hours when existing municipal consultation windows are closed.
With the official introduction from April 2026, by providing an environment where residents can easily consult specialists from their smartphones, we will further support pregnancy, childbirth, and child-rearing in Tomisato City, and ensure safety.
