KenRobo-Tech Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Miki-cho, Kida-gun, Kagawa Prefecture; President and CEO: Tatsuya Mabe), driven by the vision of 'creating the world’s most human-friendly construction sites,' announces the launch in June 2026 (Reiwa 8) of the industry’s first ultra-low-profile 'Thin Plate Compactor,' co-developed with Mitsukasa Industry Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of compact construction machinery.
This product reduces the overall height by 420mm compared to conventional models, making it an innovative labor-saving device that eliminates the need for physically lifting heavy compactors in low-clearance environments such as under railway tracks during ballast replacement work or in utility pipeline installation projects.
Due to strong demand, the initial production run for June deliveries (limited to 30 units) has already been fully reserved. Reservation for deliveries from August onward is now open.
Background and On-Site Challenges
In traditional railway ballast replacement (replacing track ballast) and subgrade compaction during infrastructure renewal projects, it has been essential to manually lift heavy equipment to maneuver around rails or existing structures. In confined spaces where structures are located directly above the compaction area—such as under platforms or in double-slab structures—existing compaction machines could not physically enter, making adequate compaction extremely difficult. In such challenging environments, achieving both improved working conditions (labor-saving and enhanced safety) and guaranteed construction quality to prevent uneven settlement has long been a critical challenge in construction and maintenance sites.
KenRobo-Tech was selected as a participant in the 'JR East Japan Startup' program in 2023. Responding to these real-world site challenges, the company completed the development of this product through joint efforts with Mitsukasa Industry Co., Ltd.
Key Product Features
1. Unprecedented Low-Profile Design That 'Slides Under' Rails and Structures
By redesigning the handle folding mechanism and safety guard, the unit’s total height is reduced to just 395mm (420mm lower than conventional models). This allows the machine to pass under narrow rails or tight clearances without interference, eliminating the need for manual lifting.
2. Enhancing Construction Quality in Confined Spaces Previously Inaccessible to Machinery
This is the only plate compactor capable of operating in sites with overhead structures and limited vertical clearance, such as water and sewer pipe installations, culvert renewal, under platforms, double slabs, and other special construction scenarios. By enabling robust compaction in previously inaccessible tight spaces, it reduces post-construction settlement risks and contributes to improved overall quality and long-term safety in civil and construction projects.
3. Industry-First Foldable One-Touch Handle (Patent Pending) for Superior Operability
A new mechanism allows the handle to be locked simply by gripping and sliding the height-adjustment lever. Unlocking is achieved instantly by stepping on a foot pedal. This minimizes operator posture changes, enabling intuitive and safe operation when navigating obstacles.
