Kyoto Century Hotel to Host 'Essex The Roots' - A Four-Part Cocktail History Experience at Main Bar 'Essex'

Kyoto Century Hotel (Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto; General Manager: Miwa Sakurai) will host 'Essex The Roots: Tracing Cocktail Origins, Connecting Past to Present and Future,' a four-part event series held at its second-floor main bar, 'Essex,' from June 2026 through February 2027.

This event series explores the roots and historical/cultural intersections behind classic cocktails, offering a unique 'authentic bar' experience designed to spark intellectual curiosity. Guests are invited to enjoy a narrative experience that introduces the culture and history of cocktails through taste at the main bar, Essex.

For 'Essex The Roots,' a 'Tasting Set' is available, allowing guests to appreciate the values of 'Classic (Tradition)' cherished by Essex. After experiencing the taste of the base whiskey or spirits (15ml each), guests can compare three types of small-sized (30ml) classic cocktails using these bases.

The first session, Vol. 1, focuses on the theme 'Origins of Balance,' the prototype of cocktails. It introduces the essence of 'balance' in cocktails and the basic structure of adding sugar and bitterness to spirits—the foundation of all modern cocktails—while serving timeless classics like the 'Manhattan' and 'Old Fashioned.' Spend a special time tailored for adults seeking exploration through engaging presentations by the bartender.
