Realizing Local Production for Local Consumption of Environmental Value through the Use of Virtual Renewable Energy in the Kawasaki Coastal Area (Kawasaki Port)!
Kawasaki City is promoting carbon neutrality in its coastal industrial and port areas through the Kawasaki Carbon Neutral Combinat (CNK) and Carbon Neutral Port (CNP) initiatives. As part of these efforts, Kawasaki Mirai Energy, Kawasaki Rinko Warehouse & Terminal, Kureha Environment, and ENNET have successfully implemented a system to supply virtual renewable energy to the Kawasaki coastal area, achieving local production for local consumption of environmental value.

To achieve carbon neutrality in the Kawasaki coastal area, Kawasaki City is developing integrated initiatives for the coastal industry and port, promoting the Kawasaki Carbon Neutral Combinat initiative (hereinafter "CNK") and advancing the formation of a Carbon Neutral Port (hereinafter "CNP").
Kawasaki Mirai Energy Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Saiwai-ku, Kawasaki City; President: Jun Ida; hereinafter "Kawasaki Mirai Energy"), Kawasaki Rinko Warehouse & Terminal Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kawasaki-ku, Kawasaki City; Chairman: Tetsuya Takahashi; hereinafter "Kawasaki Rinko Warehouse & Terminal"), Kureha Environment Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture; President: Masahiro Namikawa; hereinafter "Kureha Environment"), and ENNET Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Hiroaki Taniguchi; hereinafter "ENNET") have realized the introduction of virtual renewable energy and the local production for local consumption of environmental value in the Kawasaki coastal area (Kawasaki Port) as part of the initiatives related to CNK and CNP promoted by Kawasaki City.
1. Overview of the Initiative
This project aims to promote the local production for local consumption of environmental value using virtual renewable energy. It achieves this by utilizing the environmental value derived from Kureha Environment's Wastech Kanagawa facility, located in Chidori-cho, Kawasaki-ku, to supply virtual renewable energy to "Kawasaki Rinko Warehouse & Terminal," also located in Chidori-cho, Kawasaki-ku. The supply and demand of electricity commenced on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

2. Features of this Initiative
(1)Achieving carbon neutrality by utilizing 100% of the environmental value derived from the Kawasaki coastal area
The virtual renewable energy supplied by ENNET to Kawasaki Rinko Warehouse & Terminal secures its environmental value through ENNET's procurement of electricity generated from industrial waste incineration at Kureha Environment's Wastech Kanagawa facility, combined with non-FIT non-fossil fuel certificates (with renewable energy designation). Kawasaki Rinko Warehouse & Terminal has achieved carbon neutrality for the electricity used in its buildings and warehouses by utilizing 100% of the environmental value created within the Kawasaki coastal area.
(2)Collaboration among business operators
Kureha Environment, which was exploring ways to utilize the biomass-derived portion (equivalent to renewable energy) of its generated electricity within Kawasaki City, and ENNET, which procures that electricity and environmental value, collaborated with Kawasaki Mirai Energy—which aims to serve as a regional energy platform. By proposing this to Kawasaki Rinko Warehouse & Terminal, which is actively engaged in carbon neutrality efforts, they successfully realized the local production for local consumption of virtual renewable energy in the Kawasaki coastal area (Kawasaki Port).
Notably, Kawasaki Rinko Warehouse & Terminal is actively promoting carbon neutrality initiatives, such as receiving the nation's first CNP certification (for a container terminal) from the national government for the Kawasaki Port container terminal it manages and operates.
