Kawai Musical Instruments Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has upgraded five models of its KAWAI Professional Grand Piano 'GX Series' and will launch them on July 3 (Friday).

KAWAI Professional Grand Piano 'GX-7'

The 'GX Series,' launched in 2013, is the company's flagship grand piano line, widely used by players ranging from beginners to professional pianists. Each generation has combined Kawai's long-standing piano-making traditions with cutting-edge technology of the time, continuously pursuing richer tonal colors and greater expressiveness.

The current 'GX Series' already incorporates advanced technologies and know-how developed during the creation of the company's top-tier grand piano, 'Shigeru Kawai.' However, Kawai continues to evolve its pianos even after launch. This upgrade introduces the 'Dual Pivot Damper Mechanism,' enabling smoother control during half-pedaling. Additionally, improvements to string scaling design and winding specifications enhance resonance, further integrating the latest technologies and expertise from the 'Shigeru Kawai' line.

※ Half-pedaling: Adjusting the sustain pedal's depth to control how long notes ring. By slightly releasing the pedal after full depression, players can reduce resonance and maintain a clearer sound.

1. Dual Pivot Damper Mechanism, same as 'Shigeru Kawai'

The mechanism, originally developed for the full concert grand piano 'SK-EX' and now used in 'Shigeru Kawai' models, has been adopted in the 'GX Series.' This enables smoother control during half-pedaling, allowing expressive nuances such as delicate tonal changes and rich phrasing to be realized effortlessly. Players can now experience concert-grand-level pedal expression during daily practice.

2. Revised String Design

The 'GX Series' now adopts the string scaling design and winding specifications from 'Shigeru Kawai.' This enhances tonal brilliance across the entire range, producing a richer, more resonant sound.

3. Elegant Presence with Double Casters

The 'GX Series' features the 'Ultra Responsive Action II' keyboard, also used in the company's flagship 'Shigeru Kawai' grand pianos. Action components made with carbon-fiber-reinforced ABS resin and longer key lengths deliver excellent repetition, delicate soft-touch control, and powerful fortissimo volume. The responsive, lightweight touch responds instantly to finger movements, enabling precise control over subtle nuances and enhancing the joy of musical expression.

2. Deepened Expressiveness: The 'Kawai Tone' That Reaches the Heart

The 'GX Series' uses specially crafted hammers made from high-quality wool felt and acoustically superior wood. Hammers directly strike the strings, generating sound through string vibration and critically determining 'timbre,' 'volume,' and 'tonal balance.' Furthermore, the 'soundboard,' which amplifies the sound, is often called the 'heart of the piano' and profoundly influences the resulting tonal character. Only materials that meet Kawai's strict numerical standards and the intuitive craftsmanship of master builders are selected. The resulting sound—solid, resonant bass and smooth, rich mid-to-high tones—is celebrated as the 'Kawai Tone.'
