Kato Works Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Kimiyasu Kato; hereinafter referred to as "the Company") has renewed its "REGZAM" series of hydraulic excavators and will begin selling the new 20-ton class hydraulic excavator "HD820-9" as the second installment of the new series from July 2026.

Development Background

In construction sites, there is a growing demand for reduced environmental impact, improved fuel efficiency, as well as enhanced work efficiency, safety, comfort, and maintainability. Among these, 20-ton class hydraulic excavators are mainstays that are active in a wide range of sites, including infrastructure development, general civil engineering, land reclamation, demolition, and loading. They are required to have high work capacity to support daily construction and adaptability to diverse sites.

To meet these needs, the "REGZAM" series has been renewed. This machine inherits the basic performance of its predecessor while also considering stability and ease of use during operation, improving the powerful excavation and loading performance unique to the 20-ton class. Through new designs in each part, it is a 20-ton class hydraulic excavator that enhances work efficiency, environmental performance, durability, maintainability, operability, safety, and vehicle management.

Main Features

1. Work Performance

The engine, which has been well-received in previous models, continues to be used, realizing a hydraulic system with a new control valve that utilizes its output and torque performance. This achieves a more powerful, smoother, and stress-free operating feel and improved work speed, while also reducing fuel consumption.

Fuel Consumption

6% reduction in fuel consumption during 90-degree swing dumping (in P mode)

Work Efficiency

3% reduction in cycle time during 90-degree swing dumping (in P mode)

Furthermore, it has expandability to support a wide variety of attachments, enabling its use in a broad range of work sites (※ optional).

2. Environmental Considerations

Equipped with a new clean engine.

Complies with the European emission regulations (European Stage V) in addition to the "2014 Standards for Emissions of Special Motor Vehicles for Construction."

Designated as "Ultra-Low Noise Construction Machinery" by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Designated as "Ultra-Low Noise Construction Machinery" by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as a product that is 6 dB or more below the noise standard values set for "Low Noise Construction Machinery."

Certified as a "2020 Fuel Efficiency Standard 100% Achievement Construction Machinery" by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Certified as achieving 100% of the 2020 fuel efficiency standard (☆☆☆) under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's "Fuel Efficiency Standard Achievement Construction Machinery Certification System" as construction machinery with excellent fuel performance that meets certain fuel efficiency standards.

Equipped with an exhaust aftertreatment unit (DOC + DPF + SCR).

The Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) capture particulate matter (PM) in the exhaust gas, significantly reducing emissions, and efficiently burn and regenerate soot accumulated in the DPF. The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) contained in the exhaust gas.

3. Durability and Maintainability

- The bushings (bearings) at each joint of the boom and arm have been changed to high-performance sintered bushings. This improves grease retention on the connecting pins, enhancing durability.

- The swing motor has been renewed, improving durability by 35%.

- All filters are integrated in the engine room, improving daily inspections and maintenance.

4. Cab Interior Comfort

- The travel frame has been renewed. Durability is ensured and mud removal performance is improved.

- Forged bosses are used for the arm top, arm foot, boom foot, and boom center boss, improving durability.

- A new cab (operator's seat) has been adopted. The front space, including the footwell, has been expanded, improving comfort during boarding/alighting and operation.

- The well-regarded APC control system has been inherited. Optimal settings such as work mode and attachment hydraulic flow can be made via touch panel operation.

- A newly adopted split floor mat makes cleaning easier.

5. Safety

- The display area for camera images on the 7-inch wide LCD panel has been expanded by 91% in area, improving visibility.

- Features a side defroster function. By blowing air from inside the cab onto the side windows, it removes fog and frost, improving right-side visibility. This supports comfortable and safe work.

- Human detection surround view system newly set up (※ optional). It detects people around the machine, contributing to reduced risk of accidents.

6. Security and Management

Equipped with the telematics (operation management system) "K-Cast".

Remote monitoring of location, operating status, fuel level, etc., for each unit is possible. By improving vehicle management efficiency, it contributes to the optimization of site operations and maintenance planning.

Adopts a new entry system.

Authentication has been changed from traditional tag authentication to password input, contributing to the prevention of tag loss and reduction of vehicle theft risk.
