Collaboration with Soka City and Tokyo Denki University: Hands-on Workshop to Learn About Electric Drive and Hydraulic Power from Crane Trucks

Kato Works Co., Ltd. (Representative Director and President: Kimiyasu Kato, hereinafter 'the Company'), in collaboration with Soka City and Tokyo Denki University, will hold the first session of the hands-on learning workshop 'Town Hero Academy Special Edition ~Science~' for 5th and 6th grade elementary school students and 1st to 3rd grade junior high school students. The event, titled 'The Mystery of the Power of Oil!? Learn the Mechanisms of Construction Machinery!', will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Tokyo Denki University's Tokyo Senju Campus.

■ About 'Town Hero Academy Special Edition ~Science~'

This event is a three-way collaboration between Soka City, Tokyo Denki University, and the Company, aiming to provide hands-on learning opportunities that are difficult to obtain through regular school education. The nearest stations to the venue—Kitasenju, Soka, and Satte—are all connected by private railway lines, and the event is being held with the goal of providing collaborative educational opportunities across this region.

Through a program of three sessions, the initiative aims to foster interest in science and manufacturing among the younger generation and create opportunities to think about the future of Soka City.

Future sessions are scheduled for the second session on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the Shin-Soka Fire Station, and the third session on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the Company's Ibaraki Plant.

■ Workshop Content

In this workshop, Company employees will first give a lecture on the mechanisms of 'electric drive' and 'hydraulics' in crane trucks and hydraulic excavators. Following this, a faculty member from Tokyo Denki University will give a lecture on the basics and mechanisms of electricity, deepening understanding of how electricity moves objects. Furthermore, based on what they have learned, participants will have the hands-on experience of assembling an electrically powered model car, allowing them to learn about the fun of science and manufacturing in an enjoyable way.
