Hotel Indigo Karuizawa Announces On-site Initiatives for Pride Month in June

Hotel Indigo Karuizawa (Karuizawa-machi, Nagano Prefecture) will host initiatives to deepen understanding of diversity and an inclusive society throughout the hotel in June, coinciding with 'Pride Month.' Pride Month is a global period of advocacy and events held each June to promote understanding of LGBTQ+ community rights and diversity. Hotel Indigo, operating under the 'Neighborhood Story' concept, provides stay experiences through the unique culture and people of the region. This initiative collaborates with the local Karuizawa community to create opportunities to engage with diverse values and lifestyles. ■ Rainbow Bookshelf A 'Rainbow Bookshelf' collecting books related to the LGBTQ+ community will be installed in the lobby lounge library. The books were curated in collaboration with 'Hotch no Lodge,' a local clinic in Karuizawa. Guests are free to browse during their stay as a starting point for encountering diverse lifestyles and values. Period: June 1 (Mon) – June 30 (Tue), 2026 Location: Lobby Lounge ■ 'Rainbow Wall Decor' Workshop Supervised by upcycle artist Seiya Kaji, this workshop utilizes scrap wood and shavings from local lumberyards and woodworking shops in Karuizawa. The workshop, popular during Golden Week, is specially arranged for Pride Month. Participants can create original wall hangings by arranging rainbow-colored wood chips into heart or rainbow-shaped molds. This experiential content allows participants to naturally engage with diversity while learning about the meanings behind rainbow colors. Participants will receive a special rainbow croissant made by the hotel's bakery chef as a souvenir.
