Kansai University has selected "100 Books for Freshmen" in collaboration with major bookstores "Maruzen-Yushodo" and "Kinokuniya," along with the university president. This selection will be introduced to approximately 6,900 new students in April 2026, emphasizing the importance of reading as they begin their university life. [Key Points of this Project] - The President of Kansai University, Maruzen-Yushodo, and Kinokuniya have selected "100 recommended books." - This unique Kansai University reading promotion project, which began with the desire to "put a brake on young people's declining interest in reading," is now in its 9th year. - Reading is for paper, not electronics – responding to the real opinions seen in student surveys. "100 Books for Freshmen" started with the desire to "put a brake on young people's declining interest in reading." This is a unique reading promotion project of our university that enters its 9th year this year. The 100 selected books consist of 20 books recommended by our university's President, Tomoyuki Takahashi, plus 40 books each recommended by Maruzen-Yushodo and Kinokuniya. Driven by the hope that students will "visit bookstores and encounter even more books during their university days," the project introduces large stores in Osaka City belonging to the two cooperating bookstores, complete with photographs. Furthermore, the arrangements for the books in this project (including e-books) are supported by the university's Education Support Association (the parents' association), positioning them as a gift from parents to their children. ■ "Paper over Electronics" – Responding to the real opinions seen in surveys As a result of a survey conducted by our university library among students, a tendency to prefer printed books over e-books was observed. Therefore, the proportion of printed books has been significantly increased compared to previous years.
