Kansai Airports Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that the red telephone box, which was previously located in front of the UK Pavilion at the "Osaka-Kansai Expo," has been installed at Kansai International Airport as part of the Expo's legacy. This iconic red telephone box was actually used on the streets of the UK. At the Expo venue, it was decorated with plants such as ivy, becoming a popular and picturesque photo spot embodying British charm. The "Osaka-Kansai Expo" featured various exchange events between the UK and Japan, further deepening the relationship between the two countries and between the UK and the Kansai region. To commemorate this, the red telephone box was donated to the airport as a symbol of friendship between the two nations. Today, a commemorative ceremony was held, inviting Consul General of Osaka Michael Bryce and other dignitaries to the airport. At the ceremony, Michael Bryce commented, "Both telephone boxes and airports serve to connect people from all over the world. I hope that many people who see this telephone box will be reminded of the Expo and the UK." Additionally, Kansai Airports Co., Ltd. President and CEO Yoshiyuki Yamaya stated, "This telephone box is a cherished British icon that has been treasured for a long time. I feel a synergy with Kansai International Airport, which has been addressing coexistence with nature on an artificial island. We want to cherish the spirit of the Expo along with this wonderful telephone box." Kansai Airports looks forward to this telephone box becoming a new photo spot at Kansai International Airport and a beloved part of the legacy of the remarkable Expo. Through its airport operations, the Kansai Airports Group will continue to contribute to promoting exchange and cooperation with local communities and countries around the world.
