What is a "Picnic Hamper"?
A "Picnic Hamper" is a British-style picnic basket filled with food and a complete set of tableware. With this plan, you can enjoy an authentic British picnic hands-free, recreating this traditional style.
History of the Picnic Hamper
The origin of picnics is said to date back to 17th-century France. When it spread to Britain in the mid-18th century, it became popular as a culture of enjoying meals in lush green countryside. In the 19th century, a circle called the "Picnic Society" was formed in London's high society, which became the catalyst for the flourishing of picnic culture in Britain. In the 19th century, Fortnum & Mason, a long-established department store in London, began selling "Hampers" (baskets) filled with groceries at the request of high society, which became the origin of today's "Picnic Hamper."
