"Why team building with handbells?"

Some of you might be wondering. Handbells are a somewhat special instrument, like piano keys that have all been separated. Naturally, a single bell can only produce one note. In this program, each person is responsible for one note. That note alone does not make music. Music is only created when one's note overlaps, connects, and harmonizes with someone else's.

I have dedicated myself to establishing the handbell as a 'solo instrument.' I also know the difficulty and rigor of completing music alone. That is precisely why I feel that music created alone and music created with others have completely different values. It's not about which is superior, but that both have meaning and value. Every single note has meaning, and every single note is indispensable.

This program leverages the characteristics of handbells to allow participants to experientially learn about roles within a team and relationships with others. The timing of when to play one's note can only be understood by listening to the surrounding sounds. However, if one focuses too much on others' notes, one cannot fulfill one's own role. Music is only established when both harmonizing with the surroundings and reliably fulfilling one's own role are present.

Furthermore, by intentionally swapping assigned notes, participants will experience the perspectives and difficulties of others. This is not merely a musical experience, but a time to reflect on human relationships. This program is conducted in small groups of 8 to 16 people. This is the optimal number for each individual to have a role and for the team to complete the music.
