Kamakura Shimbun Co., Ltd. (Chuo City, Tokyo; President and CEO: Fumio Kobayashi; Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime: 6184; hereinafter "the Company"), a provider of diverse end-of-life planning ("end-of-life activities" or "shukatsu") services amid a super-aging society, will sign an "End-of-Life Planning Collaboration Agreement" with Konohana Ward, Osaka City (hereinafter "Konohana Ward") on July 1, 2026. Through initiatives such as end-of-life planning seminars and individual consultation sessions for residents and staff, as well as the establishment of a dedicated end-of-life consultation hotline, the Company will support resolving end-of-life-related challenges and contribute to building communities where people can live with peace of mind.
Background of the Agreement
The Company has been promoting internet and publishing businesses centered on "end-of-life activities" to support individuals in living lives without regrets. Through customer centers and portal sites, it aims to provide one-stop solutions for various end-of-life-related issues.
In Japan's super-aging, high-mortality society, local governments routinely handle consultations regarding caregiving, funeral services, and post-death procedures. However, information on inheritance and grave matters remains insufficient, posing numerous challenges.
In response, leveraging its expertise cultivated since its founding in 1984, the Company launched public-private collaborative projects with local governments in 2021, aiming to resolve residents' challenges related to end-of-life planning and memorial services. Through jointly publishing "Okyami Handbooks" and "Ending Note" books, and supporting the establishment and operation of "Okyami Corners," the Company supports the creation of communities where people can live securely in an aging society.
Konohana Ward has been actively enhancing information provision and support systems to enable citizens to proceed with end-of-life planning confidently. Now, the Company will sign an "End-of-Life Planning Collaboration Agreement" with Konohana Ward to support citizens and further improve the quality of end-of-life-related services. This marks the second ward in Osaka City to sign such an agreement, following Nishi-Yodogawa Ward.
Specific initiatives will include distributing end-of-life support booklets such as the "Ending Note" and "Shukatsu Benri-cho," organizing end-of-life seminars and individual consultation sessions, and jointly disseminating end-of-life-related information.
Additionally, the Company will support Konohana Ward residents more comprehensively through the establishment of an "End-of-Life Consultation Hotline" staffed by specialists, as well as seminars and training sessions for citizens and municipal employees.
