The General Incorporated Association of Technical Communicators (Location: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Masayasu Watai) has renamed its 'Japan Manual Award', which has continued since 1991, to 'Technical Communication Award Japan (TC Award Japan)' starting this fiscal year.
A 'TCA Special Seminar' explaining how to utilize the TC Award Japan and tips for information design will be held on Thursday, April 9th, at Waseda Hoshien (hybrid format).
Background of the Name Change: Towards Evaluating 'User Information' Beyond the Scope of Manuals Information for correctly and safely using products and services has rapidly diversified from traditional 'paper instruction manuals' to videos, apps, and websites. The TC Award defines these diversified contents as 'user information' and will broadly target them for judging and commendation.
Specific Examples of 'User Information' Eligible for Submission We are actively seeking not only traditional booklet formats but also software and web-domain content such as the following:
・Software/Web Services: Onboarding (initial setup) screens and tutorials for SaaS and apps, help centers and knowledge bases within web apps, API references and specifications for developers.
・Videos/Rich Content: Product setup and usage explanation videos distributed on YouTube, etc., smartphone operation guides utilizing AR (Augmented Reality).
・Product Embedded/Package: Operation guides and error recovery procedures displayed on LCD screens of industrial equipment and home appliances, quick start guides directly printed on packages or product bodies.
April 9th Event: TCA Special Seminar (Hybrid Format) In this seminar, we will explain how to improve your company's document quality through the utilization of the award.
Part 1: TCA Special Seminar (Venue + Online distribution via Zoom) We will introduce how to utilize the 'TC Award Japan'. We will explain, with concrete benefits, how to connect objective feedback from expert judges to your company's quality improvement and production process enhancement.
Part 2: Individual Consultation Session (*Venue participation only - No Zoom distribution) Experts will provide direct, in-person advice for specific challenges related to submission.
*The consultation session in Part 2 is an in-person individual consultation at the venue, so there will be no online distribution. Those wishing to consult should come to the venue.
