The Japan Research Institute, Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Jun Uchikawa; hereafter JRI), in collaboration with Hakuhodo Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Kenji Nagura; hereafter Hakuhodo), Hakuhodo Product's Inc. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Masakazu Hashimoto; hereafter Hakuhodo Product's), and Sony Network Communications Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Noriyoshi Nakagawa; hereafter Sony Network Communications), has been selected as the project contractor for the 'FY2026 Startup Activation Promotion Project (Hosting of Global Startup Event)' (hereafter 'the Project'), following a proposal submitted to Osaka Prefecture in February 2026.
JRI, along with Hakuhodo, Hakuhodo Product's, and Sony Network Communications, will handle the planning and operation of 'Global Startup EXPO 2026' (Dates: October 5–7, 2026; Locations: Umekita, Nakanoshima, etc.), an international event focused on deep tech. Leveraging its expertise as a consulting firm that has guided many research-oriented (deep tech) and social-impact startups to success, as well as its international networks with governments, universities, corporations, and startups, JRI aims to facilitate information exchange and collaboration between leading domestic research seeds (centered in Osaka/Kansai) and top-tier overseas entrepreneurs and investors, thereby supporting the creation of new businesses.
Starting from April 22, pre-registration for 'Global Startup EXPO 2026' has opened for target participants, including domestic and international startups, corporations, investors, financial institutions, local governments, universities/research institutions, support agencies, and aspiring entrepreneurs.
Together with its partners, JRI will contribute to showcasing the potential of the Osaka/Kansai region—particularly in deep tech startups—to the world. Furthermore, it aims to support the social implementation of future technologies revealed at the Expo and contribute to the creation of new industries and clusters in the deep tech field.
