The Japan Research Institute, Limited (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Atsushi Uchikawa; hereinafter "JRI") will participate in the new "TUS SciTech Collaboration Village Concept" (Note 1 / hereinafter "this Concept") promoted by the Tokyo University of Science (Location: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Masatoshi Ishikawa; hereinafter "TUS").

Endorsing the philosophy of joint development of human resources who will bear the future and the creation of new value through "co-creation" between industry and academia, JRI will contribute to the "formation of an industry-academia co-creation intellectual cluster" aimed by this Concept through the implementation of joint research and other activities.

Background and Objectives Since its foundation, TUS has boasted some of the best educational and research capabilities in Japan, with its strength in merit-based education that cultivates the "ability to pioneer the future," full of a spirit aiming for active roles in industry. This Concept, formulated toward its 150th anniversary, aims to create new value to solve social issues by seamlessly connecting basic research to social implementation by forming an "industry-academia co-creation intellectual cluster" with the university as a hub.

Meanwhile, against the backdrop of digitalization and the rapid evolution of AI technologies, the importance of open innovation to utilize science and technology for business transformation has been increasingly growing in industry in recent years. Particularly in the financial industry, where JRI provides IT solutions, IT plays a major role in improving the customer experience value that is the source of competitiveness. Thus, the focus has shifted towards developing advanced specialized personnel equipped with cutting-edge technological knowledge who can implement it into society.

JRI believes that this advanced Concept by TUS will greatly contribute to the promotion of financial DX and the development of next-generation technology talent, and thus begins its participation.

JRI's Initiatives JRI will begin joint research (hereinafter "this Research") on the theme of "UI/UX in financial systems in the generative AI era" with Professor Hiroyuki Nishiyama (Department of Information and Computer Science, Faculty of Science and Technology), an expert in distributed artificial intelligence and UI/human behavior analysis. This Research provides opportunities to engage in research with a business perspective aiming at social implementation, based on a structure where students proactively participate as researchers.

In this Research, Goei Sato (1st-year doctoral student), who himself founded and manages the AI startup "Mugimaru Co., Ltd.," will be in charge of devising an AI model that generates optimal screens for each user. Through co-creation with next-generation researchers who possess both deep academic knowledge and practical perspectives gained at the forefront of business, JRI will strongly promote the resolution of social issues in the financial sector.

Furthermore, this Research also aims for the participating students to present their findings at international conferences. From JRI, researchers from the Advanced Technology Lab with a track record of presentations at prominent international conferences (Note 2) (Note 3) will participate in the joint research, encouraging challenges toward the future by creating an environment where students can focus on their research with greater peace of mind on a global stage.

JRI will provide the maximum extent of its practical knowledge cultivated through the development of financial systems for the SMBC Group. By combining this with the deep knowledge of science and technology held by TUS, JRI will contribute to the "formation of an industry-academia co-creation intellectual cluster" aimed by this Concept through solving social issues in the financial sector and cultivating and producing advanced technology talent who can act globally.
